We were pleased to find an interactive map of multi day hikes in Australia. And then another. They’re great resources to find some options of a wide variety of hikes.
We’ve found multi day and overnight hikes to be one of our most effective “switch offs”, both psychologically and technologically: many remote hikes have no 4G and no cellphone reception. It often takes us till late in the second day to really start to forget all the worries of our day to day lives and just relax.
If you don’t mind a flight, we can’t recommend the Great Walks of New Zealand highly enough. We’ve always been impressed, both by the scenery and by the infrastructure. Many of them have guided walks available with a broad range of levels of support. It has meant that we don’t need to worry about bringing camping gear, sleeping bag, camp stove/crockery etc and even more importantly, food. We can book, and show up with boots and clothes and the rest is organised. We find that we are often busy with non-trip related things leading up to a holiday and don’t really have time to plan and organise all the minutiae of a hike.
The Queen Charlotte track is another highly recommended walk in NZ. We used one of many companies who arrange water taxi transfers to the start and from the end as well as remote hotel accommodation (all of them had a restaurant) along the way, packed lunches daily, and transferred our bags from hotel to hotel. We then could relax in the lead up to the trip knowing meals and accommodation were all organised and we just needed to carry our packed lunch, water, waterproof jacket and a camera each day.
