Book Review: Animal Hide and Seek

Animal Hide and Seek forms part of a series of books for children about Apple Tree Farm and the adventures of those who live there. This is a great introduction for younger readers.

Summary: On each page, full colour images of farm scenes are depicted, with one animal “missing”. Each page hides the missing animal behind a sturdy flap, with increasing numbers of animals on each page. Many of the most commonly featured animals in the other Apple Tree Farm books are introduced.

Best thing: Introduces young readers to animals and characters they can enjoy in other books as they grow

Time to read: 10-20 minutes

Pages: board book with thick card flaps and sensory patches, eg glitter and wooly spots

Age: 1-2 years, can be used to aid counting as well as animal identification and motor skills of lift-the-flap

Buy or borrow: This one is an either. We own a copy and it was read multiple times over a year or so, first just to look at the colours and pictures, then for animal identification and later to help with counting. That said, it wasn’t one which was read 100 times per week for several weeks like many of our “buy” suggestions.
